Women's issues
SLOW DOWN, BIG GIRL . . . Proof positive now for my theory that the honking horn behind you in that split second between light change and your pulling away is most likely being punched by a woman.
Sorry, ladies, but you do rate highest on the time urgency/impatience (TUI) test administered by Northwestern U. and other researchers, at least if you are white and better educated, as reported by Jim Ritter in Sun-Times 11/21/02. As a group, the higher TUI scores belong to these women. So lay off that horn, please, and apologies to all those wonderful women who do not hit the horn except as a safety measure.
To be precise, the study found that "young urban adults who scored the highest on an impatience scale were more likely in the long run to have high blood pressure than people who were the least impatient," per S-T.
The study, by researchers at Northwestern University and other centers, was presented during a meeting in Chicago of the American Heart Association. These impatient people "also tended to smoke more, drink more and exercise less," which sort of behavior is typical, is it not?
We are not surprised to hear it. Racing one's motor is a bad habit. What this world needs is a littale more stoicism in its educated elite.
